The Globe Costume Archive: The Original Practices [Pt.2]

Twelfth Night by Shakespeare. Character: 'Cesario'
Cesario: Doublet, Hose, Sleeves, Cloak, Gloves, Stockings, Garters, Pouch.

Shoulder of Doublet. Detachable Sleeves have been sewn in.

Doublet with Pink Silk Satin Lining. The holes are for the points to go through.

Wooden buttons covered in silk thread along sleeves and doublet.

Frech Style, suede Hose, with points attached.

Points fed through eyelets in hose (would be attached to doublet).

Leather and suede pouch.

Suede gloves.

Embroidered cream wool stockings.

Garters for stockings (these would be hidden under ribbons).

Ribbon garters tied over wool garters.

Embroidered collar to be worn over the doublet collar.

Reverse patterned fabric for the cape.

Half Circle cape with inklebraid trim.

Sleeve cuff.
Flat cap, with a small decorative feather and braid.

The Angle the hat is worn.
 
Richard II by Shakespeare. Character: 'Bolingbroke'
Slashed black doublet.

Blue quilted lining.

Original detachable white slashed sleeves with pink lining. (Replaced with black sleeves)

Black jerkin (to be worn over the doublet) with cut and uncut velvet pattern.

Another shot of the jerkin.

Black French Hose with Cannions with a cut/uncut velvet pattern.

French hose with pricked/slashed trunks and cannions.

Quilted linen collarband with handmade lace.

Order of the Garter. (Pewter painted Gold).
Embellishments for hat.

Tall hat with rabbit fur and added embellishments.

Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare. Character: 'Romeo'
Pink and black slashed doublet with pink trim.

Quilted linen lining.
Back design and cut of doublet.

Matching hose in French Style with black satin slits to show pink under sating. Lined with linen.
